Post Earthquake School Campus Masterplan

Infrastructural geograhy as limit to growth

Infrastructural geograhy as limit to growth

In May 2012, two major earthquakes occurred in Northern Italy, causing 26 deaths and widespread damage. Straight after the event, temporary prefabricated buildings were rapidly built to provide shelter and public services. The town of Camposanto, near Modena, was heavily affected by the earthquake and new temporary schools were built due to the significant damage to the existing ones. In 2013 we collaborated with CAIRE Urbanistica to design a masterplan for the reconstruction of the school campus.

Meta planning assessment

Meta planning assessment

Various publicly owned sites have been verified in terms of environmental assessment, site logistics and risk management. To each option we provided a meta design and preliminary cost evaluation.

Site feasibility

Site feasibility

The process involved a complex consultation process with the entire population of Camposanto alongside a specific series workshop with the various stakeholders. The result of our study were publicly present to the population in a series of open events.

Our feasibility study combined elements of urban planning and sustainable mobility with an in-depth experience of best practice school design.
