Green Masterplan and Design of a Public Square
During 2013, we collaborated with CAIRE Urbanistica on the master plan for green areas and retail strategy for the historical centre of the city of Schio in Italy. Our first analysis focused on the historical traces of waterways and open spaces to identify opportunities for reconnecting relevant nodes of the public space network.
Local businesses have suffered in recent years for the creation of large shopping centres in the outskirts of the city. To counterbalance the exodus of retail activity and to ensure an active use of public space, we designed a new public square that will act as a regeneration catalyst to improve footfall and increase local retail business.
The square has been tailored around a pre-existing monument and will combine soft and hard landscape, reducing traffic speed by means of innovative kerb design and road surfacing materials.
